Taylee - ch3 DYV

Summary: As stated in the previous chapter, breathing is key to releasing. We can just as easily say that posture is key to correct breathing. We must develop the ability of a "perception of self" so that we can feel when our body is out of line and what specifically needs to change in order to correct it. As singers we tend to think that breathing should be or feel like more when we are singing verses when we are speaking. Sure we need a little bit more so that we can sustain the pitch, but the same idea should be there that our breath is literally a sense of rest or effortlessness. And that is just referring to the inhalation aspect. the Exhale should be completely passive!!
Key Terms: Proprioception. Kinesthesia. "Breathe support" pressure. Venturi effect. breath management.
Key Concepts: An efficient and natural supply of air is needed for voice production.
Making Connections: I know that this is a HUGE issue that I have! My lower back is tense all day long, and I often feel it getting worse when I am singing. Obviously the longer I have been in the program the more I have started to notice it, but I wasn't really self aware until about 8 or 9 months ago. I really liked the exercises that he gave in this chapter! I now feel like I can take more responsibility and work towards resolving my posture issues!!
