Summary: Primal sound is the sound that you were born with. Too often singers try to manufacture their sound to be something that it isn't. To find your primal sound you must "become as a little child, free from all inhibitions." We must "reestablish contact with [our] instinctive being." Finding our primal sound is "the essence of healthy voice production." When we sing with our primal sound we are tapping in to the power that will allow us to give an authentic performance that our audience will empathize with. To access our primal sound we have to get out of our own way, think the pitches, and ALLOW it to happen.
Key Concept: Get in touch with your primal sound and you will unlock the key to healthy vocal production and authentic performance.
Connections: I've been working on this a lot this semester. Primal sound isn't just low grunting sounds, it is natural, reflexive sound that comes out naturally. I feel like I better understand primal sound now so I am more observant with my own primal sounds. Primal sounds feel so free and real and when I apply this to my singing it feels better than ever!
