Summary: There is a great degree of satisfaction that can come from choral singing. If choral conductors have the same vocal goals in mind as individual vocal teachers then there would be no risk of vocal damage during choral singing. A good choral director would be wise to spend the first 10 to 15 minutes of practice on warming up, especially on descending exercises.
Key Concept: The same goals for healthy vocalization should be present in choral singing as much as in solo singing.
Connections: I know a lot of people who have really struggled with good vocal technique because of the instructions that their choral teachers gave them in high school. A good choral teacher will be aware of the limitations and realistic expectations for voices in a choir. They will also assist students as much as possible in having healthy vocal habits.
