Summary: "Primal sound is an automatic response, which you can improve by learning to keep out of its way." You can experience release when your larynx is suspended freely in your throat. It should not be pulled down nor should it be pushed up. Good vocal production will happen when the muscles in and around your larynx are as free as possible. To be free in singing, your voice must also be free in speaking. The harder you "try" the less your voice will respond. "The voice responds to the mental concept." Get out of the way, think and let.
Key Concept: Release happens when the muscles of throat are not interfering with vocal production.
Connections: My throat muscles always try to help out my singing. I've especially become aware this semester of my tongue tension. It causes a lot of problems for me. When I let go of all interfering tensions and let the air flow freely, that is when I feel the best while I'm singing.
