Summary: A professional career takes a lot of maturity and discipline. Some people who we expect to make it big end up making it nowhere because they didn't put forth the work to do so. To be a professional singer one must not only have the voice, but also proper technique, flair and poise, interpretive ability, musicianship and musicality, presentable appearance, stage personality, people skills, good understanding of basic repertoire, reliability, health, love for the work and efficient management skills.
Key Concepts: Understand what it takes to be a professional musician and decide if that is what is right for you.
Connections: This chapter just made me feel kind of inadequate. I like what he says at the end though, about facing reality. We do have to face the truth of reality and avoiding it won't make things better. We must continually evaluate and re-evaluate ourselves to see if we are on the track we want to be on.
