Taylee - ch8 DYV

Summary: Good technique will naturally produce "loudness"/intensity. As we allow airflow to activate the vocal folds, and time to strengthen them, eventually we will get the desired "power" we are seeking after. As far as resonance goes, it is a by-product of the correct function of other parts of the voice. We can feel the vibrations all over our body, so when we free the body, especially in the places most vital to singing, the resonance is able to intensify due to the overtones that are allowed to be produced. Again, patience is key, and we must strengthen these muscles over time! We can't force the focus to happen.
Key Terms: Carrying quality/ability. Formant.
Key Concepts: What we hear is never going to be the same as what the audience hears when we sing. Therefore, we must rely on the sensations we feel and developing a release in our body, and then trust our voice to do whatever it is currently able to do.
Making Connections: I was a belt singer before I started my major. I used a lot of throat tension, and a ton of air pressure to make myself louder. It has been really hard to settle into the idea of not "making" anything happen when I sing, but I am always more pleased with my sound AND the way I feel when I don't feel myself forcing anything.
