- At the beginning of the lesson we did two exercises on one pitch only: ee-eh-ah-oh-oo & oo-oh-ah-eh-ee. They both have different effects in training vowel shape.
- He commented that my ee vowel needs to be more vertical, and I now realize that he was commenting on a lack of molar space in that vowel.
- He generally wanted my mouth open more, and that is something I have worked on throughout this semester that has been very helpful.
- Another exercise he had me work on was going up the triad ah-ee-eh-ah, and then down the octave on ah, hitting the tonic on ee. I'm not sure of the purpose of this one, but it wasn't bad!
- He commented I needed to vibrate on every note, and that my sound needs to be connected but vowels change quickly. Cindy is still commenting on that to this day, and I noticed it in my jury performance! Definitely still something to work on.
- His voice teacher told him to not buy a ticket to his own concert, meaning you don't listen to yourself while you are singing! That's a concept I want to understand better.
- My favorite thing I got from this lesson was about the core of the body. He said that all martial arts and tai-chi, those kinds of activities, all are centered where the spine meets the pelvis (three fingers below your belly button. That concept was very helpful to me.
