LaeKin Burgess OLB Chapter 3 Summary

Summary: Posture is essential to goo vocal production because it directly effects body alignment and therefore breathing. If posture is poor, the muscles of inhalation cannot function properly and proper breathing is inhibited. This applies not only to the position of the spine, but also the legs which should be free, not stiff. Breath should not be forced out of the body but should be released. If too large of a breath is taken then the muscles of breathing will be over extended and snap back upon release forcing the air out.

Key Concept: Understanding the mechanics of breathing will help us to avoid errors caused by misconceptions about breathing and singing. Proper posture should be important to every singer.

Connections: I tend to be hyperfunctional so I have to be careful not to think about breathing and posture too much. When I do I just over-do it.
