Taylee - ch6 DYV

Summary: It is more important to know your range than to decide what classification you are at this point in the game. As said previously, we are developing singers, and labels only limit us. Concerning children's voices, they too are underdeveloped. Pushing their voices too long and asking for more weight can be very harmful in the long run. As we teach, we need to make sure they understand that their voice will sound more mature in time! As far as they are concerned, singing should be enjoyable!!
Key Terms: Tessitura. Monotone.
Key Concepts: Healthy voice use is far more important than voice classification. The average human has not completed hes physical development until age 21.
Making Connections: This chapter was very reassuring to me as a teacher. I've started teaching a couple of students and I want to do a good job, because that is what they are paying me for. I think it is very important to realize as the teacher, that they too have an individual voice and we need to help them in a way that doesn't force our voice onto theirs.
