Jared Daley SOHH Chapter 10
Summary-
There are a lot of competing voices in our lives that tell us what is and isn't true. They tell us what's best for us and later that it's the worst thing we could ever have done. There are many many right ways. Our perception needs to change about right and wrong ways. "Our bag of mismatched beliefs becomes bulky and unmanageable." We need to dump everything we learn about right technique and wrong, then analyze what important things we need to keep. As teachers we have to be careful in how we word things as definitive and the only possible answer. Each student is unique and there will be a different "right way" for each of them,
Key Concept- Finding our own truths or own way of learning of paramount importance in teaching. We will have tried out many ways and be able to help our students find theirs.
Connection- I have had several teachers in my life call me a sponge. I soaked up whatever was taught and conformed to their rules. I only truly started progressing when I realized that i had the freedom to discover how my voice works for myself.
