Laura B Master-Class 10/29

Laura B
Emily Cottam: Very nice expression and focus. I also felt like she had a good connection with the breath in her body. Her vibrato was also pretty consistent. Cindy helped her to expand her expression and sing it not as a sad piece but as a piece of hope, which would focus more on the true meaning. When she sang more with this in mind, she connected more fully with the piece, she was able to sing lighter and focused. Cindy also had her open her mouth wider, and the air was able to be freer flowing. Emily has a beautiful voice that is wonderful to listen to, and it was exciting to hear how the things that Cindy suggested immediately improved the quality of her singing.
Hannah Lovato: I loved how light and buoyant her voice is, and I could sense the energy in her body, throughout her middle body. On her high notes, she was holding back and I could some tension. The 'eh' vowel would become spread and out of place. Cindy had her identify her favorite and least favorite parts of the piece and then had her instruct her body about how she would like them. She would then identify specifically what she would like it to be like. When she instructed her body to be flowier, her singing became flowier. Cindy also helped her with her intonation by helping Hannah to think higher and then let her body do the rest. She is definitely on the right track, and will continue to improve as she gives herself specific instructions.
Caitlin Craig: Caitlin has a beautiful naturally bright timbre in her voice, but she was holding back a lot, which seemed to be causing a lot of tension in the vocal chords. This was especially on the high notes. Cindy instructed Caitlin to instruct her larynx to go down, and it made a huge difference in her voice. Her voice did not seem as constricted and she had more space and resonance.
