Brooke's SS Chapter Summary- Playing the Game
Legato Technique- "learning to sing with legato technique is the basis for healthy singing in any style" in order to do legato technique well you have to have defined vowels. So far in this book we have learned about the italian vowels for the most part but here he gets into the french ones he talks about how much nasal we should put into those french vowels. Then he moves onto the consonants. He tells us how spitting out consonants will help tense of the jaw and how that will stop the free air flow. consonants are vital in understanding text but we as singers really need to pay attention to keeping the air flow constant. Musicality is also important and different for singers than the way instrumentalist do it. We have to bring it through the words. Dynamic wise we still have to keep free flowing air wether singing softly or loud.
