Mariah SS 12
Chapter Summary: Singers need to take more responsibility for their singing. Making their own decisions and not using some excuse for bad singing will help singers to stop focusing on outward things that they believe are affecting their singing and take responsibility for themselves. Singer's can't let others tell them exactly how to make a successful career, but they need to understand that people become successful in different ways. Singers need to be "open and flexible" when it comes to doing what the conductor wants, but singers also need to know when they are no longer being true to themselves and find a way to compromise. When we know ourselves better, we will know when to say yes and when to say no. Singers need to be prepared and generous colleagues. Singers need to humbly understand where they are and where they want to go in our musical career.
Key Concept: Singers need to be open and honest about what they are capable of and whether or not they are staying true to themselves. Singers need to take responsibility for themselves and their singing and stop blaming outside factors.
Key Terms:
Making Connections: I've realized that sometimes I tend to blame the fact that I'm just having an off day or something similar to that when I sing poorly. I need to take more responsibility and stop accepting singing that is less than my capability. I need to be aware of where I am currently and do all that I can to be continuously moving forward but also staying true to myself.
