Sarah Boucher SS Chapter 11 Summary
Chapter Summary: Every singers career is different. What is important is that we stay true to ourselves as we discovery where our voices will take us. We shouldn't only sing what is in our fach or what others tell us is suited for us, we should sing music we love. If we have developed a free voice we will not try to sing music that is too difficult for us because we won't like how it feels.
Key Points:
-Choose pieces that you really connect to
-"Voice category labels are subjective"
-Do not apologize in an audition, have confidence but humility
-We should treat auditions as performances.
-Before auditions we should visualize how we are going to do, not the reactions of the judges.
-If you can not mark freely-Don't do it!
-Singers are actors
-If you want to have a career singing, you need to know your voice and what you are capable of.
-In learning music, it is important to get the pitches in your ear before you sing.
Key Terms:
-audiation
-fach
Making Connections: I really liked what Smith said about how we should visualize how the audition goes not peoples reactions. I often go to perform and think only of how people will view my performance. I imagine them weeping, or beaming or being awe-inspired and that never happens! Hahaha! It is important to visualize myself, where I will be, how my singing feels when it is right in my body, each phrase, the accompaniment etc instead of the reactions of the listeners.
