LaeKin Burgess Voice Lesson 10/29

Today didn't give me a chance to warm up before lesson so we started out with that. My vocal chords were a bit swollen so we did very nice, easy, descending vocalizes on lip trills first and then on a hum. Then we started descending 5 notes scales and then full scales beginning with a "th" then opening up to the [i] vowel. As we worked the number of times I "helped out" with my throat became less and less. We sang through the songs we selected for my jury and picked out the spots that need the most work. I realized that for "oh had I jubal's lyre" I had become very robotic again in my singing and I needed to keep working on sloppy text and being very "light" in my approach. There are also some cues in the accompaniment that I am missing. My goal for this week is to practice everything with my accompanist again and get everything down pat while keeping a release in my lower back and freedom in my larynx.
