In this chapter smith goes over some unwritten rules about behavior and being or roared in the opera world. Every performer should have their music well learned by the time rehearsals start. Even at the most professional levels there are people who don't learn their part, which should be unacceptable. You have to learn how to be a good colleague, this means having your music ready and learned, and being a nice considerate person in general. You must also learn how to handle directors. Some directors want to establish their authority over people and can be rude, unjustly. You need to be able to stand up for yourself, but be respectful at all times. We all have to learn to say no sometimes as well. Don't be the marking herald!
Key concept : be prepared, be respectful, be professional.
Connection. Like the last chapter, I feel like he explains lots of things that you wouldn't know about how opera companies work unless you actually have participated in one before. Since I have been able to have that experience with ufomt, I can relate to what he is saying and I agree with everything he says.
