Jake chapter 11 TNV

As we decide what to do in our careers, the most important thing is to be true to ourselves. We should learn and sing repertoire that we connect with, and that we love to sing. Don't listen to the singer that categorize your "fach" as something that you don't want to be. As we find our naked voice and have a free technique, the type of music we should sing will be made manifest by our unique sound. Sometimes a singer comes along and changes the expectation of a certain characters sound in an opera. Like the sopranos in Don Giovanni. One was a spinto and the other was a lyric, but then some soprano came along and sang the role of the spinto so well in a lyric voice that the concept of that characters sound was changed, so don't try to sound like someone else. Be true to yourself. Don't box yourself in with your repertoire, and don't let judges box you in either. Make sure you have a balanced attitude in auditions. Don't be too energetic and happy, but don't be a "woe is me" type either. Find the balance. HAVE CHURCH! Smith then gives us a method to learning our rep.
1. Study the text
2. Speak the text
3. Speak the text in rhythm
4. Get the pitches in your ears.
5. Sing it
Rehearsing properly will help us along through our careers, and it is something that we must do healthily. We should mark while staging, doing dramatic rehearsals, etc. But when you are doing musical rehearsals, you should focus on the music entirely and forget about the drama and emotion of the music. Make sure you are financially stable, take care of your money, and don't blow a big paycheck. be wise, what can I say more? learn how your body responds to certain things on game day. Learn how you respond to foods, drinks, etc.
key concept: Be yourself
key connection: I feel like this chapter is the guideline for my life in the career I want to have. loved this chapter.
