Jaron Putnam Chapter 11 Summary NAked VOice

Chapter 11 Summary:

Summary: Repetoire: Repetoire is very important for a singer! But the absolute guiding principle behind this is that you should sing music that you love! Period. Find variety, but don't get cast into a "fach." Sing what you will love singing. The idea is that if you have developed your natural naked voice, then you will naturally be drawn to the right sort of rep, because it will fit your voice best, and you will enjoy it for that reason. Auditions: three audition techniques: 1 atmosphere of the space, 2 what you want to communicate, 3 imagine vocally what it sounds like when you are at your best. Then just go in and do it! Don't be over confident but have confidence. 5 Step process for learning rep: 1 Study the text, Speak the text, Speak the text in rhythm, Get pitches in your ear, then sing it! A word on Marking: Mark freely, or don't mark at all! Singing freely at full volume is better than marking poorly. Be an actor! But don't let your voice be tight in trying to show drama. Performance day: Don't do a full set of inventions! You have to find out what is best for you, but think of yourself as an athlete! Organize your time appropriately. It doesn’t matter if it takes you a week to learn a role and it takes 6 months for someone else to learn it. Show up at rehearsal ready to go! Manage your money well.

Key concept: These are a lot of nuts and bolts ideas that he has to be successful.

Key terms: fach, Have church, positive visualization,

Making Connections: I definitely need to review these chapters if I ever get out into the world, and perform, or have to have auditions, or sing for something.
