Sarah Boucher Masterclass Critiques 10/29
Emily Cottam: I really liked her confidence and poise the first time she performed it. She had emotional presence but I felt like her sound was a bit held back. When Cindy had her think more about having hope instead of just sadness, the change of emotion changed the sound. The sound was less held back and had more brilliance. Another thing that really helped to free the sound was when Cindy had her exaggerate and sing with her mouth super wide open, this allowed more sound to come out and to have a more even spin. As she thought of recreating more energy on each note the sound was gorgeous!
Take Away - Revitalize energy, reopen your mouth, don't sing sad
Hannah Lovato: Hannah has a really nice bright sound and a natural spin in her voice. I noticed that she seemed a little panicked and her body would make a slight movement on all the short notes. As she identified her favorite part and why it felt good to sing it, she was able to identify what she wants to feel vocally in the whole piece. I saw a lot of good things as Cindy had her take sections that she didn't like and try to have the same qualities in her voice of the parts she did like. Especially when she thought more flow, the airflow was freer and the sound was lovely!
Caitlin Craig: Caitlin has a nice nasal presence but the sound is a little bit raspy and pressed. Cindy had her sing in on an [a] and think about keeping the larynx down. When she did this her sound was a lot richer and the raspyness went away! Cindy also had her mouth the words without sound so that she could think about keeping the larynx down and the space open even with words.
Great job ladies!
