Jared Daley SOHH Chapter 9
Summary-
Visualization has amazing affects on our practicing and performance. Visualization is not just seeing, it's using all of our sensory awareness skills to hear, feel, see, and be moved. Having a clear image of a piece eliminates obstacles that could make us stumble. Our internal rehearsal is so important and must be different from out actual performance. It's like singing without phonation. We can feel every tiny detail when we do this and we cant create good habits before we ever make a sound. Whatever you sense ahead of time is what you will play/sing. Your head can insist that you know a section of a piece really well, but then you stumble every time in a certain spot. Visualization helps us prepare ahead of time for those spots and we create a smoother path to a successful performance. We must let our bodies work, we can't force anything.
Key Concept- Planning ahead and having greater sensory awareness before we practice, will greatly improve our practice and performance abilities.
Connection- I have practiced many times without singing. I just created shapes and feelings, and learned when to breathe. Those moments gave me the best results.
