Vocalizations: Two-Toe, Primal uh to descending five oh, Getting high, octave dump float on ooh
Helpful Vocalizations: I love the "getting high" vocalize. I just feel like it is so energizing and helps me release my high notes. This week I finally let go and allowed myself to just let the sound out. It was good because I ended up hitting a high e without much effort at all!
Music worked on: Asturiana, Voi Avete and Le papillon
Take Aways: Asturiana needs a more sob like quality in it, that will help me with phrasing. I need to release my jaw more on that piece and connect with the text. Although I have more nasal presence and vibracy on Voi Avete, I now need to concentrate on not allowing my jaw to take over. For Le papillon I need to focus on the dynamics. We talked a lot about the dynamics that are writing in and why they were there. Thinking about the dynamics helped the whole piece flow better for me.
Impact on weekly practice: We sang all the way through Voi Avete for the first time ever. The good news was that I didn't die, the bad news is it is a struggle to get through. I had to stand on one leg just to get my support low and consistent...too bad I can't stand on one leg for my recital! This will really impact my practice this week because Laurie told me to sing it through in it's entirety at least twice a week and then spot practice the runs the rest of the week, particularly the figurations that descend.
Goals for next week: More memorizing done, and still more focus on the jaw!
