Date: February 19
Student: Stephanie J.
Objective: Establish a model behavior of posture for singing. Discover some truths and sensations of standing in an upright, balance, and ready attitude. Also work on repertoire.
Short-term goals: Gain a better sense of body and posture
Long-term goals: Learn to free the sound and think-let-trust.
Anticipated plan of action: Begin by standing in front of the full length mirror, having her look at the image of her posture, and then close her eyes while I tell her a few things about her spine and skeleton (i.e. the weight bearing lumbar vertebrae being halfway through the body). I will also address the A-O joint. After talking about these things and having her adjust her posture while listening, I will have her open her eyes and see the difference that new knowledge made to the way she stood and carried herself.
Next we will try some tongue releasing exercises with the "ng" tongue posture and singing with our tongue stuck as far out of our mouth as we can.
Yawns/sighs
The chewy hum.
Child-like voice 8531. in a speech-like manner.
[u] 54321 with the constricted lips.
Focus on eliciting pitch and not trying to make the sound sound a certain way, but letting it happen.
How will you speak to your student's "injury"? I will try to be much more specific in instruction and praise. We will work on releasing the tongue. I would also like to try again to be specific and clear in my questions so that I can receive a thoughtful and specific answer.
Materials needed: Granada.
Verification and assessment (how will you decipher your student's understanding): I will try to listen carefully to what Stephanie has to say. I will know that she is getting something if she gives me a thoughtful answer, rather than a "maybe" or "I guess".
