Sam Meredith Anna O Lesson Plan for 2/20

Anna's primary long-term goal for our work together is to gain more confidence in herself as a singer. My short term goals that I would like to accomplish as part of her lesson today are to help her develop a more accurate body map and to find a greater state of release in her jaw that is consistent for all vowels. To help her have a better body map I think I would like to do the same thing with her that I did with Rob earlier this week. I'm going to ask her to assume good singing posture and then stand in front of the mirror to just notice how things look and feel. Then, I will ask her to close her eyes and make adjustments if she feels they are necessary as I tell her some important facts about the body. To achieve my other goal I'm going to do a few vocalizes that hopefully will help her learn that her jaw doesn't need to be closed and locked for certain vowels. I think I want to just do a nice, easy, descending exercise where she switches back between the vowels [a] and [i]. My hope is that the [a] will get her jaw open and that with proper direction she will be able to maintain a jaw that is both released and open. I also want to do some more descending scales with her possibly using the vowel [e]. I think that will help get her jaw to open more, but it will be a change from [a]. I also think it will be good practice for her with register adjustment.
