Elizabeth T Lesson 2.9.14

List of lessons learned (bolded are the most impactful for me):

- let both jaws slide back and under, not down!  This will allow the bottom molars to be behind the top molars.
- Be aware that when you cross vowel formants, some kind of lip negotiation is necessary.  Notice I did not say jaw negotiation!
- "shhhhh" as a point of departure in warm ups is a good idea in general.
- Remember the megaphone picture: wide in back, narrow in front.  That narrowness is not created by pushing the lips forward but allowing them to be drawn forward as the sound requires. (or, as Cindy put it, "Have your lip magnet turned on high."
- A high and bright sound doesn't have to come from a wide front opening.
- VIBRATE EVERY FREAKING NOTE
- More randomization in practice will help it stick better the next day.
- Lifting, which gives the voice more room to make music, can happen even without a breath.
- Lift your teeth apart always, because a high note is probably coming up.
- Be drawn inexplicably to something while singing always.
- It's not authentic singing if you can't blossom.  You don't have to blossom, but you have to have the capability.
- Don't stop singing the previous note to sing the next note.
- "You can have potty breaks all the way there, but you just can't hang out in the bathroom.  We gotta get somewhere."
- "You can't just sit down in a marathon.  You can pee, but you have run while you're peeing."
- Don't let the sound settle back in your mouth.
- If you can feel your chin when opening your mouth, you are doing something wrong.
