Lesson Summary October 24th- Lesson with Thomas Glenn

What a great lesson. Lots learned and was able to work on a lot for this week. I am realizing more and more what my greatest need is right now as a singer. In both my lesson last week and for this week a strong, strong emphasis is being placed on keeping resonance regardless of what vowel is being sung. I have a tendency to "change the space" as I go from an e vowel to an ah vowel. I lose resonance, and lack the same sort of space. We talked about keeping a more bright and energized ah vowel. Especially as I ascend into the upper part of my voice. We did a particular vocalize that I love- Ascending octave on ah, with space in between each note. From what I observed in the lesson, the purpose of this exercise is to work on keeping the same space as you go up the scale. The bottom E should be in the same feeling and place as the High E, etc. etc. The most interesting comment made for me during the lesson came from Thomas, and then was followed closely with an affirmation from Cindy- I should spend MONTHS on a particular note. I should need to remain in the F to F# range for a few months before venturing into the G scale. I think this type of long term thinking will really help me improve! I realize now that I have been going beyond my sweet spot in trying to sing high notes. I need more time in my actual sweet spot before moving on. More time means months, not just a few minutes of my warm up.
