Jake THN chapter 13

Hydration: we need to make sure to keep our bodies hydrated so that we can produce enough mucus to keep the vocal chords lubricated. If they are too dry it can cause nodules and discomfort and can damage the cords. ( My gallon of water for the win!!!)
beware of medicines and drugs, they can have a negative effect on the voice. We need to make sure that we are not causing stress on or voices in our daily speaking. just be smart and aware of what you are doing to your throat.
Smoking= Stupid. Duh.
Exercising: Make sure that you eat healthy, and exercise regularly. having a strong body means you will have a strong voice. If you are a heavy lifter then  make sure you are not straining the glottis, keep the air flowing. Another way to reduce the risk of hurting your voice when lifting is to do lower weight and higher reps.
we should try our best to keep up on our appearance. Sadly, recently American Opera companies are starting to favor someone's loos over their vocal ability.
We need to know ourselves very well before we choose our career path. We need to understand if we are the type of person that can be away from family for long periods of time, be able to travel, make friends, etc
key concept: take care of yourself, know yourself
key terms: hydration, exercise, balance
connection: I love my  gallon of water I carry around! I know that I need to take care of my body in order to take care of my voice. I also know that I need to figure out how I feel about the singer's lifestyle, and how I can modify it to fit my idea of what I want in my life.
