Sarah Boucher OB Chapter 14 Summary
Chapter Summary: Choral singing should be founded upon the same principles as solo singing especially when it comes to free production of sound. Choral singing should not be injurious to our voices if done correctly. Choir directors should be sensitive to the needs of the individuals in their choir with regards to vocal placement and who they place by each other.
Key Points:
-Choral singing is not injurious to vocal health if done correctly.
-The 3rd, 6th and 7th should be thought of as high in vocal music
-Part of all choral rehearsals should be dedicated to warming up the voice properly

Making Connections: Last year, I thought it was impossible to sing free in choir. I always felt tense after rehearsals and did not think I would ever learn how to "blend" and have "straight tone" without this tension. This year, I have held on to my vocal technique and focused more in rehearsals. I have been able to find a sound that feels good but also blends well in the choir. Rather than thinking of them as two separate things, it has been very beneficial to combine what I know from voice lessons with choral singing!
