Amber OB Chapter 11

Amber OB
Chapter 11
Regular, consistent, focused practice is essential for a singer (and anyone else for that matter). If you don't practice and expect to be great, you're deluding yourself.
Practice should start at the very beginning of  the day to prep the voice. However, this must include the entire body. Get loose, get aligned, get aware. Patiently go through the preparation necessary to get to the zone of readiness to work so that you don't do damage, even if you feel like you could knock it out of the park ten minutes after waking up.
Approach a new song in layers; a piece at a time such as Rhythm only at first, then text, etc. Two different approaches to the order of approaching these layers were given.
Mental preparation is key as well. Getting it in the head ie: rhythm, pith, text, notes, dynamics, (imagined) sound, can be an amazing tool before even vocalizing the song for real.
Key concepts: Practice is vital and really does count. “Regardless of where you begin, your goal is full development, that is, to fill in those areas that are weak and missing.” Learn to vocalize the song. The vocal warm up is like vocal hygiene. IT TAKES TIME.
Key words: Inner sense, alignment, Vocal hygiene, (the) circle, think.
Connection: Being ill, that mental approach to preparation is going to be a huge help.
