Sam Meredith Partner Practice 11/20
Elizabeth and I had our first partner practice today. It went pretty well. She sang through a couple of her French pieces for me. It was really fun to listen to her sing. We mostly worked on her feeling more free on some of her higher notes. It's certainly not a matter of her not being able to hit the notes, it was really just a matter of preparation. So, I encouraged her to write in pencil the highest note of the phrase at the beginning of the phrase so that she can be properly prepared to sing the note when it comes. After we did this and after she just started thinking about a more released feeling the notes seemed to improve. Elizabeth then worked with me on trying to keep my larynx down while singing 'si tra i ceppi'. First she notified me of the spots where my larynx was elevating. Then we pin pointed those spots and tried a few things to make my larynx stay down. One thing that seemed to help was inhaling on a 'ko' sound. The larynx was still coming up a little bit and the tone seemed slightly colored, but I still think we made some progress.
