Caitlin Craig Partner Practice 11/22/13

Today I had my first partner practice with Emily.  We decided since we had been singing a lot this week with choir and such, that we would go over some of the vocalises in the back of discover your voice, rather than sing some more.
We began with the "Huh" exercises to find the primal sound, and I found that not only did we find our own sound, but we were also able to produce sound healthily, while maintaining a down and outward breath.  My back muscles also released when I thought of crying. Emily's sound seemed to fall out, and it was apparent that we both benefited from the primal exercise.
We also worked on the descending exercises to promote letting the sound fall out.  If one of us got stuck we would do some sighs or cries, and then sing it again, and it freed up the sound, and cleaned up our onsets.
The last thing we did was practice holding our breath with our vocal folds apart.  This was surprisingly hard.  It took a lot of energy to keep my body down and out, but it felt like a healthy, upright, and open posture for breathing.
