Mariah OB 13

Mariah OB 13
Chapter Summary: Being a professional takes a lot of hard work. Singers need to always be prepared with a large repertoire and a few entire opera roles. Also, to be able to make a living, professional singers need to audition, audition, audition. They can't expect to get hired if they only audition for a couple productions. Along with good technique, singers need to be confident and expressive. Nobody wants to watch an apologetic audition or performance. When singers have their own personality and share it, it is much more fun for the audience. Professional singers need to gain experience any way they can and be respectful in their professional relationships. Good physical health and appearance also play a big role in casting operas today.
Key Concepts: Being a professional singer takes a lot of work. It is just as hard as other professions and maybe harder in some ways. A professional singer needs to have excellent technique, good health and appearance, expressiveness, and dedication.

Making Connections: I need to audition for things for often. Even if I don't think I will get it, I still need to try and be confident. I also need to work on being more expressive and confident in my performances.
