LaeKin Burgess Masterclass Critiques 11/19

Kaylee Ann Simmons- Kaylee seems to have a decent grasp of free air but it is a bit under-energized. Her lips and jaw may be too involved in the text. Cindy had her work on finding deeper meaning in the text. Songs about nature normally are an analogy for something else. Also, Cindy had Kaylee speak the text in English and then in the German not only to get a grasp for emotion but also so that her German was not "fake" sounding through pursed lips.

Brooke Myers- There is a lot of jaw involvement going on here. I'm sitting on the side of you and watching from the side I can see you neck straighten and your chin drop like you are trying to reach for the high notes. Energize the air and let the air do the work. You have a really beautiful voice. While practicing focus on keeping your primal sound in your singing. Vocalize beginning on "s" and "z" and see how quickly you can release the jaw from those consonants.

Bric Slade- So relaxed and beautiful and then...an ascending phrase and your jaw and tongue decided they wanted to help. On ascending phrases focus on having free flowing air, primal sound and leave your jaw and tongue out of it! Watching you from the side I can see your neck and back visibly stiffen on higher notes. Lie on the floor or dance around while you sing to keep your body released. Cindy suggested you energize your upper torso. She had you sit and reach for the chair opposite you. When this happened you released one area and grabbed another. Focus on letting it all go. She also had you try reaching for the ceiling. I think the key here is distracting yourself so you won't "hold on" to your singing. Very good work! I learned a lot from watching you.

Sarah Boucher- A lot of jaw involvment and possibly some tongue tension. When Cindy had you speak then sing there were a few moments of true "Sarah Voice" that were so beautiful. Beware of "manufacturing" the sound or believing you have to sound a certain way.  Let your voice be what it is. You have a very beautiful voice. Good job!
