Chapter 14 Summary-Singing in a choir can be different in some ways compared to solo singing, but for the most part the principles remain the same. When one is selecting voices for a choir, for example, it is important that the director selects singers who are able to blend well and not necessarily singers with big, pleasing voices. The principles of healthy vocal exercise still apply in choral singing and require even more knowledge and scrutiny on the part of the conductor since he or she is responsible for more than one voice. When selecting repertoire we should be conscious of the level of our group. We should select music that is challenging, but not beyond the reach of the group we are conducting. We should also be conscious of the technique of our group. We should always encourage free, healthy tone production, good posture, etc.
Key Concept-We should continue to follow the principles of healthy vocal exercise and phonation even in a choral setting.
Key Terms-Intonation, Vocal Exercise
Making Connections-I think I need to be more conscious of what I am learning in my voice lessons as a choral singer.
