Since I wasn't able to finish all my voice lessons with Brianna, Laurie was able to give me my last lesson for the semester today. I had already warmed up my voice a little bit before I came, however she ran me through a few simple ones to get a feel for my voice.
We worked on "Die Sproede" the entirety of the lesson. I sang through it once, and it was pretty terrible. I was collapsing in breath, my larynx was riding up, and overall it was a hot mess. She asked me to speak the words for her in German with projection. This was a good exercise because it engaged my entire body, and freed up my layrnx. I sang a line, and it was much freer. Then she had me bend forward balancing on one leg while keeping my arms above my head. I think this exercise mostly made my body engage itself, and took my mind off of singing. My high ascending phrases were a piece of cake because my upper jaw was opening and releasing the sound. My body wanted to panic, but it didn't, and I had enough air to continue the phrase.
Laurie also reminded me of Cindy's Korean accent. I found it to be a good tool in releasing my upper jaw for the high notes.
Overall, I felt like this was an extremely productive lesson. I learned a lot, and gained many useful tools that I had never tried before in my normal lessons. I really liked Laurie's style of teaching. It was fun, and refreshing. Now that I've found that release in my upper jaw, and engagement of my body, I need to make it happen on the first attempt.
