Sarah Boucher OB Chapter 11 Summary

Sarah Boucher OB Chapter 11 Summary
Chapter Summary: Practice and daily vocalization are essential for all singers. Vocalization should be a habit that we have, just like brushing our teeth! We should take the time to warm up our bodies as well. Effective practice takes patience and it helps to divide it up into shorter periods of time. Our goal should be to fill in the gaps that we are missing in our vocal development. We need to apply vocalization to the pieces we learn and studied them focusing on one element at a time. Thinking is a huge part of practice and learning music, often going through a piece mentally will prepare you to sing it better then anything else.
Key Points:
-Technical training prepares the artist for the emotional expression of the music
-In order to be an accomplished artist we need to make sure that we are strong in all the aspects of singing.
-Learn to vocalize the song
-Think ahead, never look back at what you just did.
Key Terms:
Making Connections: I really liked what Brown said about mastering all elements of singing. I am so guilty at just riding on what I do well. I remember being confident about my emotion in my pieces for my junior recital. I kind of thought to myself "All I need is personality and the audience will love it." Afterwards a friend came up to me and all she said was "At least you were entertaining!". In that moment I realized that I can't just hide behind what I do well! It is a good reminder for me that if I want to grow as a singer all elements need to be strong! I can't just expect to go far with only some of the elements!
