Taylee Beckstead 02/28/14 Lesson

Vocalizes:

-descending 5 note lip trills. down by half steps. goal: open back
-full octave descending lip stills. Half way through, she had me trill for a second before initiating phonation.
She could tell that my voice was a little tired. I had over sung a little in choir.
-"A B C D-thee" 5-4-3-2-1. I tended to control each degree. She wanted me to think the pitch and then fall through.
-"Who's new blue shoes" 8-5-3-1. Focused on getting a speech like feel and sound and not "sing".
Here we took a break for me to massage my face. My jaw ans cheeks were really tense.
-"lee lay lah loh lee lay lah loh lah" 8-6-7-5-6-4-5-3-4-2-3-1-2-7-1. Simple
-"A B C D -the" 8-5-3-1. I kept pointing with my neck (reaching for the pitch, forcing it there).
"5-4-3-2-1" singing the degree I was singing of a descending 5 note scale.

During my vocalizes, Brianna pointed out the things that I physically do that she can visually see when I'm trying to make a singing sound. I tend to stretch the back of my neck, "crazy eyes", and tighten my lips (or at least tense them).

I think this was the first lesson that I didn't sing something from the opera. I wasn't as prepared for these songs memory wise, so I sang them all on "lee". This helped me on some things though. by just focusing on singing the melody, I was able to listen for the pulse of the song, i.e. the "dump moments". Also [i] is really easy on most notes for me.
