MayeRee B. Lesson Report #3 for 2/6
We started with gentle lip buzzes on 54321 starting on A4. It still sounded restricted to me so I tried asking her to think [i] in her mouth even though her lips were closed. This didn't seem to help. I tried and [a] descending and asked her to just glide over the pitches rather than hitting each one specifically. She was still pretty tight. To get her to be able to recognize her tension I had her pantomime the top notes of an octave scale starting on E4 and come in only when she was able to produce the same low larynx position she felt when she did a primal huh. She began to recognize the tension but still wasn't really sure what to do to change it. We went back to 54321 and I asked her to imagine an orange in her throat or something smooth running down her throat and it feels good so she likes to keep that feeling of open space there. She still is tense but at least she can recognize it.
