DC chapter 8 summary
Summary: Often times we think a good coach or teacher will be a stalwart, eloquent leader. More often then not they are very ordinary individuals who have a knack for bringing out the best in people. A good teacher knows the moment a student walks in the room how he/she should conform to the needs of that individual student. For some students a loud, commanding approach is necessary while for others a silent encouragement is needed. For all students, no matter what the approach, the teacher serves as a guide to myelination giving constant critical feedback to which the student can conform. Teaching in chunks and quick phrases of correction allows for the proper feedback to appropriately myelinate circuits required to build skill. Most importantly, teachers teach with love and motivation which sparks the "ignition"for the student to continue moving forward.
Key Concept: Good teachers conform to the needs of each individual student. They understand how to give short informational corrections that help to build myelin. Most importantly, a good teacher motivates with love.
Key Terms: Ignition
Making Connections: As someone who wants to teach music it is important for me to be able to understand each student individually and approach each situation differently. My goal then, should be to gain knowledge and understanding in my field and myelinate the circuits for proper loving and motivational instruction.
