Taylee. Summary: We're all different. Saying that seems a little bit redundant. But that statement applies to more than just the obvious things like appearance, gender, religion, etc. Doesn't it make sense then, that everyone learns differently too? The main idea that Ristad is trying to get at is that we as teachers and as students judge ourselves too quickly and make assumptions too easily. "I'm not getting/doing that, therefore I am this." The situation is far more complex than that, and requires a much deeper analysis. Perhaps you really do understand what the goal is you are trying to reach. Obviously you can distinguish your result from that of the model behavior; so maybe what you really don't understand is the way the goal is obtained. So before we go diagnosing the issue, we need to try multiple solutions to our problem.
Key Concepts: Just because you don't understand something right away, doesn't mean you're doomed to never understand it.

Making Connections: Yesterday in my lesson I experienced a perfect example of this phenomenon. I have studied with Brianna for 2 years, going on 3, and the whole time she has made the comment that my singing needed to be more speech like. Tuesday I had the opportunity to have a lesson with Thomas. Not 10 seconds into my singing did he make a similar comment. But the way he worded just finally made it click! Suddenly I was so free and I was singing high C's like nobodies business! Both teachers had the same goal in mind, all I needed was a different approach.
