Sarah Boucher ER Chapter 7 Summary
Chapter Summary: In this chapter, Ristad talks about taking the time to look up while hiking. Her feet knew where to go without her direction. As singers, we can apply this to letting things naturally occur in our bodies instead of directing the biomechanics. Sometimes taking the opportunity to "take in the surroundings" of our pieces rather than focusing on the tiny details, will help us improve without realizing it.
Key Points:
-You can't just shut your mind off completely, you need a partnership between your mind and body.
-We need to be aware of our surroundings rather than just focusing on directing our feet where to go.
Key Terms:
Making Connections: When I focus too much on just one aspect of my singing, other aspects seem to fly out the window. I often feel like I sing my best when I am thinking about my piece as a whole, thinking of the character and the phrasing rather than thinking "ok breathe here and here". I over think things that can naturally occur if I just let go and expand my focus.
