Emily F. ER 8

Emily F, ER 8 summary:Too many words. More procedural learning.
Key Concept:Sometimes the best way to learn is by doing.
Making Connections: OK, I'm being a little silly in my summary and key concept, but really, that's what I got from this chapter! I love to talk and I usually do too much of it. Ristad talked about experiencing things on physical and emotional levels. I'd add spiritual to that. I can imagine that it's a big job for voice teachers to describe what they want from their students. We do so many silly things in lessons to lower the pharynx, loosen the tongue, energize the core, stabilize and strengthen the lower body, keep the upper body strong yet relaxed, etc. More procedural learning can be very useful in voice. We, as students, need the opportunity to feel what we're doing and experiment with that a lot. Teachers need to be able to communicate what is wanted clearly, but sometimes that's hard with just words.
