Jared Daley SOHH chapter 5

Jared Daley SOHH Chapter 5
Summary-
I thought this chapter was really interesting. Almost every one of us can say oh I had lessons when I was a kid. I related to a lot of the stories. I was actually quite afraid of my piano teacher. She was an extremely nice lady but I was such a tender hearted little boy, if she didn't like something I was doing, I would break down and cry and never want to return to lessons. As teachers we don't realize the power we have in our students lives. We can make a huge impact for better or for worse. No one should become addicted to guilt, no one should lose their child like enthusiasm for music. It's amazing the difference in growth and improvement when you have the right teacher. In teaching simple things like rhythm it's important to make it seem like no big deal instead of this insurmountable task. The students then feels accomplished and that excitement for learning remains. It all comes down to recognizing different learning styles
Key Concept - Awareness is key in all things. As a teacher we need not only be aware of mistakes and how to fix them, but of the way our students learn best.
Connection- We can all relate to when our teachers finally tap into our learning style how much we take off in progress and how excited we are to sing with our new found knowledge.
