When Elouise Ristand teaches her student, Ruth, she finds that turning the music to the side helped her make sense of intervals and the grand staffs correlation to the piano. Ruth was better able to decipher what to play that way. this just shows how people understand things in so many different ways and who is to say some one can't play the piano when we have only tried one way of teaching. You can get so comfortable at the things that you feel you can do well that you close your mind to being able to to things that are hard for you to do. Having a thorough understanding of the structure of the piece helps you to know exactly what you need to do in performance.
