Brooke's SOHH Chapter 6 Summary
Different student will have different problems. Some will have a hard time reading notes and some will have a hard time learning by ear. Others will be able to sight read really well while others panic when asked to do the same. Ruth in this chapter has a perception problem that was not realized until thirty years into her life after taking piano lessons yet again. It was found that she worked well with imagery and her teacher then honed that into her. Roger on the other hand could sight read very well but was unable to memorize with the ease that Ruth did. For him other actions where taken to help him learn.
Key Concepts- every person has a different way to learn you just have to listen to find out what it is.
Key Terms- Memorizing, sight reading
Connections- I am a sight reader at heart and feel so much more comfortable with music in front of me even if I have practiced it hundreds of times. I never really knew why memorization came to hard for me while I saw in my siblings that it came to easy to them. It is interesting that the three people who were so good at memorizing were able to try sight reading and by the end find it fun. This made me realize that I can do that same thing. If I try hard enough I can make memorizing fun for me.
