SOHH Chapter 5
Summary:
Each of us have most
likely had the "bad" music experience of taking lessons from a
teacher that we don't like. Perhaps the teacher isn't terrible, but every week
is a battle to practice. Every lesson day is dreaded. This scenario has
happened time and time again. Students who have a natural rhythm and movement
are told to sit still and they never learn. Most students have an innate love
of music, but that love of music is squashed out by a teacher who tells them
they are doing it all wrong etc. etc. The message of this chapter, is that it
really isn't the students fault that this happens. It is absolutely the
teacher. The lesson that needs to be learned is that all students learn
differently from one another, and one teaching method will not work for ALL
students.
Key Concept:
Students learn differently from one another. It is crucial to recognize this
and adjust our teaching to fit with that idea.
Key Terms: ??
Making Connections:
This chapter didn't really say how it is done.. But I need to learn the idea
that all students really are different and I need to adjust my teaching
approach to the needs of each student. This is very important. This may save
some poor students love of music!
