All the practicing that we do in different positions and in
different ways should ultimately bring us back to being able to do it in a
presentable, performance-ready way -- standing on our own two feet. We must not
make our new ways become old habits that aren’t really doing us any good. We
need to learn how to trust ourselves and our practice and let it develop to its
full potential. When we cut ourselves down we prevent ourselves from
progressing. Sometimes we get so caught up in all the things that we should do
and ought to do that we don’t quite get to doing them. We end up trying and
failing in performance. We should ask for what we want, accepting that the
worst case scenario could happen, and then let it be what it will be.
Key Concepts:
Trust yourself.
Just sing.
Key words:
Expertise
Imagination
Trust
Authority
Connections:
I have been able to perform with less anxiety this semester
than I have the last two semesters just because I have a mindset that is closer
to the one suggested in this book. I definitely still have to work on this part
because I am so self critical. It is a very bad habit that takes a lot of
effort for me to not give into when performing.
