Consonants can sometimes get in the way of singing. We need to learn how to keep the air and sound flow even during the consonants. Callas thought of legato line as a telephone wire with some birds scattered along the line. The birds are the consonants. We want to be able to understand what someone is singing, this takes a lot of practice of keeping the vowels as pure as possible with the sound flowing through the consonants. Vowels and consonants should be unentangled.
Key concept: consonants shouldn't stop the free legato line of the vowels.
Key idea: I've heard that I sometimes create strain or I tangle up my consonants with my vowels. I know that it's something I need to work on. I remember Kacee always having great ability with maintaining sound and airflow while singing consonants, and I try to do what she did.
