Sarah Boucher Masterclass Critiques 11/19

Sarah Boucher Masterclass Critiques
Kaylee Ann Simmons: Kaylee had a nice warm tone. I noticed that she had some constriction in her throat and that she had a tendency to hold on to each note. Her breath was occasionally audible and had a gaspy quality. Cindy had her focus on something more specific then the text (since it was just about a flower and a sunset). Next she had her speak the text like a dramatic reading first in English and then in German.  Cindy pointed out that she said a lot of the words like the Swedish chef, so they first had to get that untangled. She encouraged her to speak it 10 times for every time she sings it.
Brooke Myers: I really liked that I could understand Brooke's words. She also had a calmness about her that was nice to see! The tone was also lovely. Cindy talked about releasing her jaw, she helped her by putting her hand on the jaw as she sang. The sound was really nice and more legato without all that jaw involvement. She suggested vocalizes that start with a jaw closing and then release to an e. I liked it when Cindy related her jaw releasing to her arm being dead. That was a very helpful visual!
Bric Slade: I have never heard Bric sing that low, so that was fun! I sensed that his body was locked down a little bit. He would tilt his body was he sang higher. His words were very understandable which was great. Cindy had his sit on a chair and bend over and reach for the chair across for him. He was able to release his sound more in this position. His voice even cracked a bit which was a good sign because it means he wasn't holding on to the note. Cindy suggested more feeling of stretch through the ribcage. Having him raise his arm was also helpful to create this stretch.
