Jake OB chapter 9

Laryngeal muscles require  the need to be exercised in small amounts over time, so it's something you have to be patient with. these exercises must be done regularly over a lifetime to keep a healthy and free voice. Youths and adults voices are similar in some ways and very different in other ways. Young voices should never be pushed into doing inappropriate repertoire. That very thing has ruined the careers of many talented singers over the years. Don't judge a book by its cover.. Just because a person is big, string and athletic doesn't mean they are going to have a huge voice. The size of your body does not reflect vocal anatomy. Don't try and do too much too soon!!
Key concept: the voice is a delicate thing. Don't onrush it beyond its natural abilities, especially at a young age.
Connection: I had a. Similar experience this summer at the opera company with one of the lead baritones. He thought that because I'm a big strong athletic guy that my voice would reflect this and that I can handle huge roles. He thought that I should be singing otello and heavy Verdi stuff ASAP. I told him that I still feel young in my vocal development and that I don't wanna rush into it and blow out my voice. Gotta be patient.
