Chapter Summary: We must learn how to carry our voices. Carrying
the voice means having good resonance. Our chief resonators are the pharynx and
the mouth. The voice must be free of any tension so that resonance can happen.
Everything in your body must be free in order to experience the energy and
power of resonance. There should be no push, hold, or squeeze as the vocal
cords come together. With a great amount of energy one must use concentration
on a tone rather than the push from “power”. With everything in learning, time
and patience must be given to master good resonance and power of the voice.
Key Concept: Power does not come from push and tension but
from concentration of tones and resonance.
Key Terms: resonance, proprioception
Connection: Resonance!!!!!! I struggle with keeping the
resonance consistent. Once I find the resonance how do I keep it? I think it is
very informative that Brown always goes back to keeping the body free of
tension. In addition I like the way Brown repeats the fact that reaching these
skills take time and patience.
